Aquatic effect assessment of plant protection products – advanced course

Do you want to apply existing guidance and new approaches in risk assessment? But don’t know how? In the authorization of plant protection products the potential risks of active ingredients and products for the environment are assessed at EU and MS level using governmental guidance. This course focuses on aquatic effect assessment according to EFSA guidance and offers a combination of lectures and hands-on exercises. This combination of theory and practice is an excellent opportunity to deepen your knowledge and understanding of aquatic effect assessment and to improve your skills.

Content & Result

In this course we focus on EFSA guidance about aquatic effect assessment and the linking of exposure to effects, including consistency of the tiered approach, issues in each of the tiers, geomean and weight-of-evidenceapproach, species sensitivity distributions, modified exposure tests, micro- and mesocosm studies, realistic worse-case exposure profiles, statistical power, recovery option and models (TK-TD, population models) and a outlook on Landscape Level Risk Assessment. This course
is an advanced course and handles aquatic effect assessment at the applied level. We ask at least a Bachelor degree or similar level in natural sciences and in-depth experience with the Tiered approach for effects
on the aquatic ecosystem.

Our approach

A hands on training by the combination of lectures, exercises and discussions for Tier 1 up to the higher tiers. Back home you can apply new knowledge and approaches straight away in your daily work.

This course aims at professionals using guidance for the authorization of plant protection products:
• Regulators working for admission authorities who apply the guidance for their dossier evaluations
• Consultants and business representatives working for industry and or consulting agencies who apply the guidance for dossiers (evaluation, preparation and submission)
• Scientists performing lower and higher tier research (experimental and modelling), applying the latest and newest available guidance
