Objectives of the Arctic Social Science and Humanities Symposium are:

  • to present new social scientific research on the relation between communities and the oil and gas industry in the Arctic
  • to discuss the role and relevance of these insights for Dutch policy makers, companies, organisations and researchers
  • to strengthen the Dutch network of social science and humanities researchers working in the Arctic

  • Dr. Annette Scheepstra, Arctic Centre - University of Groningen and Netherland’s representative at the Arctic Council Sustainable Development Working Group)
  • Robert Blaauw - Independent consultant for the Arctic oil and gas industry, former officer of Royall Dutch Shell
