Big Data and digitization of food value chains & decision making offers opportunities for new type of applications, for a different engagement of actors in the value chain and the emergence of new types of development.
This lunch lecture sets the bigger picture of the role data can play in development, with respect to open data, data driven innovation, big data analytics, new sensor systems, etc. To reach this potential, several barriers need to be overcome, either institutional, data quality, capacities and enabling environment.
