Are you a student in 4 havo or 5 vwo and are you starting your extended essay? Then we invite you to Wageningen on March 20. We will skype with students from Africa and the United States about food waste! This can be a good start for your research.
Unfortunately, due to new guidelines on the corona virus, we are cancelling this activity.
We will enter a portal of Shared Studios in Wageningen, and students from the United States of America and Africa will enter the portal on the other side of the world! These portals are converted sea containers in which a large screen is hung. Through patented innovations in hardware, software and design, you can use Shared_Studios environments to engage life-size, making eye contact, as if sharing the same space.
The conversation will be led by Toine Timmermans, director of the Stichting Samen tegen Voedselverspilling (Together Against Food Waste).
Keeping food properly is a way to prevent food waste. How do students in different countries deal with this?
Are you a student from 4 havo or 5 vwo, do you start on your extended essay and are you interested in the topic Food waste? Then come on March 20! It is open to students from all secondary schools in the Netherlands.
The event is being organized by the Wageningen Youth Institute in collaboration with the Voedingcentrum (Nutrition Center), the Stichting Samen tegen Voedselverspilling and Shared Studios, of which a Portal is currently available at the high school Pantarijn in Wageningen.
You will be assigned with 5 other students, for a half-hour session between 13:30 and 17:00. You can indicate when registering whether you want to be assigned early or late in the afternoon.
Guidance during Extended Essay
High school students who have participated in this activity can receive further guidance during their extended essay process from the Wageningen Youth Institute, the Voedingscentrum and the Stichting Samen tegen Voedselverspilling. In the form of lectures and help with setting up experiments and a research question.
In March/April 2021 you can participate in the finals of the Wageningen Youth Institute and win a trip to the annual presentation of the World Food Prize in America!
