Once we conclude that climate change is a major threat and once we have tried to look at the underlying causes of it, the need for adaptation becomes clear. But how can the necessary transitions in societies come about? What is possible? What is needed? What are the most promising ways for us to change our societies to climate-neutral ones? We need choices that loosen our dependency on fossil fuels, the cutting of our rainforests and so on. We need choices that respect planetary boundaries and ecological limits. But how and where to start?
Series: The Future of Our Climate
Climate change has already changed the planet in an irreversible way and continues to do so. And all countries agreed during the latest climate summit in Copenhagen they really want to stay below a warming of two degrees. But it seems we are not heading towards the fulfillment of this goal in any way. With the current practices, the world is likely to come to a global warming of in between four and six degrees till the end of the century. What are the risks and challenges that come along with this development? What exactly are the scenarios we face, what are our choices? How can we make our choices become reality?
