Content of the course

The necessity to collaborate between various companies, sectors, and industries is one of the biggest challenges in order to create a sustainable supply chain. All around us we see new interesting collaborations: for instance, farmers and car industry collaborating on producing and using bio plastics. Until now, analysis of such network collaborations have hardly been studied and underpinned with hard numbers. In this course we learn how to assess collaboration networks in a structured, systematic (quantitative) way.

External factors like regulations, policies, culture, geography and characteristics of sectors are another big influence on the performance of such collaboration networks. We develop a framework which allows to assess the challenges and benefits of such systems.

What you'll learn

  • Understand the concept of a circular economy
  • Understand how a circular economy deviates from the current linear system
  • Analyse and develop complex circular systems using a systems thinking approach
  • Assess the use of Life Cycle Assessment and Agent Based Modelling
  • Formulate improvements for a transition towards a circular design

This MOOC is part of the MicroMasters Biobased Sciences for Sustainability, which is a program that enables you to discover new resources and help your company make the switch from fossil to renewable, biobased resources. Learn more.
