The credit crisis of 2008 which brought Europe, North America and other parts of the world to the brink of financial collapse seems to be over. But while growth has returned, fragility has not gone away. The credit crisis morphed into a debt crisis which may erupt in new forms. How do we make sense of growth with fragility?  Join Dr. Dirk Bezemer (RUG) to think through the meaning of debt, money, growth, and crisis. Why did it (almost) go badly wrong? What does economics have to say about crisis? Will we be able to identify new fragilities?

Dr. Dirk Bezemer teaches monetary and financial economics at the University of Groningen. His work is widely published in both academic journals and the  media. He is affiliated with the Institute for New Economic Thinking and the Sustainable Finance Lab, and regularly contributes to the Dutch weekly essay magazine, De Groene Amsterdammer.
