Heritage diplomacy: regionalism, cultural nationalisms and firm power

Wageningen Geography Lectures 2015/2016

Tim Winter

This talk looks at the shifting geographies of international cultural aid today. It looks at the ways in which material culture inherited from the past is being folded into the foreign policy strategies of governments around the world. By presenting examples from Asia and the Middle East it will be suggested that a new landscape of heritage diplomacy is emerging on the back of the major global economic and political shifts that are now occurring.

Prof Tim Winter is Research Chair Of Cultural Heritage, at the Alfred Deakin Institute, Melbourne (Australia)
