After last year’s successful first edition of the Urban Greenhouse Challenge, the registrations for this year’s Urban Greenhouse Challenge are open to students again. For those interested in getting to know more about the Urban Greenhouse Challenge and urban farming in general, an info-meeting will be held.
Greenhouse in Dongguan
The explosive growth that urban areas are experiencing poses challenges for both the environment and food systems. Many cities are therefore exploring the potential of urban farming and so does the Urban Greenhouse Challenge, which invites university students worldwide to design a circular urban ‘greenhouse’. This year, the greenhouses that the participating student teams will design will have to be based in Dongguan, a city within a large urban area in China. The students who join the challenge will get the opportunity to work on a real-life case and contribute to a more sustainable future while they can also expand their network.
During the info-meeting, all the aspects of the challenge will be explained, after which a Q&A will be held. The winner (Green WURks) and other participating teams of last year’s edition of the challenge will also be present to share how they experienced participating in the Urban Greenhouse Challenge. In addition, Gert Spaargaren will be there to give a presentation about the social aspects of urban farming.
One can register for the meeting by sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
