A photo exhibition representing life in the war-torn city of Aleppo throughout 2014 through the lens of survival strategies. Photos by Fouad Hallak.
Last winter the young Syrian photographer, Fouad Hallak, fled his native city of Aleppo. Sewn into the lining of his coat, USB sticks featuring riveting eyewitness accounts of that which few have been able to capture through the lens. The photo exhibition, Inside Syria displays his photos of the war-torn city of Aleppo throughout 2014 from the perspective of survival strategies of those caught in the cross-fire. Life between the bombings and battles. Where most media coverage of the war in Syria features tragic, chaotic images full of destruction, Hallak’s photos capture something beyond. Look for it in images of the daily reality of survival in a warzone. Fouad Hallak now lives in a Dutch refugee centre. He will be a guest speaker at Studium Generale in November.
