Nowadays people from different religions and cultures move all over the world. At the same time more food is imported and exported and food production chains get more and more complicated. The Islam has very strict dietary laws to which Muslims should adhere. This is not a problem in most Islamic countries. But how do you know as a Muslim in Western (or non-Muslim) countries what is allowed and what not ? Due to the complexity of the food, this is hardly ever clear. And can you trust a certificate in a non-Muslim country? This lecture will deal with a few basic aspects of Islamic food law and the problems that Muslims face when buying food in a country like the Netherlands.
