Since the first of December 2012 the Dutch government made it obligatory for high schools to discuss sexual diversity in some form of a lesson. In our university being not straight and/or cisgender is not something we have an education program about. Why not? Are we so tolerant that it is not important? How is it to be gay or transgender when you are working, studying or doing a PHD at a university?
Today as one of the activities of the Pink Week, we will discuss this questions and many more. Shout’s sexual diversity awareness committee, which gives talks at high schools and primary schools, will lead a discussion with statements about LGBT issues. Do you agree or disagree and why? Every opinion is valid if you can explain why it is your opinion.
There will also be the option to ask or write down questions for the people of Shout that will lead the discussion and share personal experiences.
We will have the same rules as in high schools: be honest, political correctness won’t help the discussion and we don’t answer sex questions.
