Every month there is a possibility for students to present their CPT (COM, PHI or KTI) thesis. CPT considers attendance by students in the colloquia series an essential part of writing a thesis, as this platform offers excellent opportunities for both presenters and audience to reflect on background, objective, theoretical framework, and methodological approach selected of own and other’s research projects. These meetings also provide opportunities to students to meet CPT staff and other students.
Providing a presentation in the colloquia series is compulsory for all Master thesis students (except for MDR students following the course ‘MDR Thesis Path’) and BSc students (except for BIN students).
Plan your colloquium
If you plan to organize a colloquium the following steps should be taken:
- Discuss with your supervisor when the colloquium will be given. Your supervisor has to be present at the colloquium.
- Sign up at the secretary’s office (firstname.lastname@example.org / room 4034) a.s.a.p., but at least 1 week in advance. Include the title and language of the presentation, and a small abstract. The secretary will inform you about being accepted in the proposed colloquium meeting.
- The secretary will send an official announcement to all CPT staff members and students doing their thesis at CPT.
In total, precisely 30 minutes are available for the presentation. Of these, 20 minutes are available for the presentation itself and the remaining 10 minutes are discussion time. This is relatively short, which means that it is important to limit the content of the presentation. Bachelor students present their colloquium in Dutch or English; Master students present in English. Laptop and beamer facilities are arranged. Bring your own USB stick with the presentation on it to the colloquium.
