Panda education for primary schools: Using the Giant panda as a stepping stone to involve children in nature conservation issues

On April 12, 2017, the two long expected Giant pandas arrived in Ouwehands Zoo in Rhenen, the Netherlands. Ouwehands Zoo would like to contribute to enhance the understanding of biodiversity and nature conservation by children. Therefor they took the opportunity to combine an education program with the arrival of the Giant pandas. An education program focused on primary school children is being set up with the Giant panda as main character. The aim of the Bachelor thesis of Marjelle Molenaar was to provide feedback that can help improve this Panda education program. This was done by gathering information and feedback with a literature study as well as an empirical study on experiences with the pilot program of teachers and children. With her presentation she hopes to give an overview of my major findings and recommendations.
