A new year, a new opportunity to cut down on alcohol. To exercise more. To stop smoking. To lose weight. Like last year you will try hard, use a lot of willpower. And you have to be radical. Not just eat one cookie less every day, but change your whole diet. You will not fail again.
But more likely you will, as those are just a few of the traps you can walk into when you try to change your behaviour. Because, for one, willpower is a limited recourse. Depending solely on willpower is definitely not the key.
In this lecture, social psychologist Thijs Verwijmeren will elaborate on the do’s and don’ts of behavioural change. And he will dig into the underlying mechanisms. Why does one approach work better than the other? And which are the promising new insights?
