The Food Paradox

Everyone agrees our foodsystem needs to be fixed, but change seems to be farther away than ever. Why? According to dr. Herman Lelieveldt we are facing a food paradox. Companies, consumers and governments: all of them want a better food system, but none of them succeeds in generating significant change. In his lecture Lelieveldt will outline the limitations of achieving change through each of these channels by discussing the limitations of domestic politics, political consumerism and corporate social responsibility. Is it only through public policies that real change can be achieved?

Herman Lelieveldt teaches political science and public policy at University College Roosevelt in Middelburg. He is the author of De Voedselparadox. Wat ons streven naar beter eten dwarsboomt (The Food Paradox. Why it’s so difficult to change our food system), and the organizer of the Utrecht Summer School in Food Politics.
