This multidisciplinary study focuses on projecting and adapting to future hydrological changes in the Mekong – an international river of global significance in terms of increasing human pressures and climate change vulnerability. The modelling assessments show substantial basin-wide flow changes under climate change, irrigation and hydropower developments, and higher flood hazards in the downstream Mekong Delta. A combined qualitative-quantitative adaptation appraisal was further implemented to develop measures and strategies to adapt to the increasing flood hazards. This study addresses the needs for adequate responses to hydrological changes in a typical international river experiencing climate change and rapid socioeconomic developments.
