Debate with dr. H. Abouleish, prof. dr. L. Brussaard, dr. L. Fleskens
In 1977 the SEKEM initiative started in the desert, 60 kilometres northeast of Cairo. Using agro-ecological farming methods, desert land was revitalized and agriculture started to flourish. Over the years, SEKEM has become the umbrella of a multifaceted group which nowadays includes large farming lands on four desert-locations, a cooperation with 800 biodynamic farms, a microcredit program, a medical centre, a school, a University, a research centre and several factories delivering for example medical plants, herbs and tea and cotton products.
