Why conflict matters: examples from food governance

In this WURtalk I make the case for conflict over consensus when it comes to food security governance. I start with the rise multistakeholder processes that aim for a pathway towards consensus. I argue that this push for consensus, coupled with  “all for one” solutions (e.g. SDGs) raise a number of concerns for food security policy-making that can be countered by embracing conflict.

Sustainable seafood: Do consumers matter?

Nearly 80% of all seafood sold in supermarkets is labelled as sustainable. Have you ever stopped to think why? The conventional view is that consumer choices drive market-led change. But behind these labels is a range of organisations and initiatives actively shaping political forms of consumerism for you. What is the effect they will have on seafood sustainability in the future?

What are WURtalks?

WURtalks are lecture evenings where gifted storytellers from Wageningen University & Research give inspiring lectures. The WURtalks are for all students and employees of WUR and other interested people. After the lecture you’re invited for a dialogue with the other visitors and scientists.
