The topic of the event was environment and resources, specifically water environmental technologies and ecology. Wageningen Alumni were kindly invited to join the event at the China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research on Saturday 15 April 2017.

Wageningen Alumni seminar on Environmental issues
April 15th Beijing, China
On April 15th 2017, 23 alumni joined the alumni seminar on environmental issues at the south campus of Institute of Water Resources and hydropower Research (IWHR). The meeting was organized by Zhang Cheng and Yan Jie, board members of WUR alumni Chapter China.
The seminar was opened and mediated by Yan Jie, Manager of WUR China office & secretary of WUR alumni Chapter China at 10:00, followed by welcome speech of prof. Han Beizhong, president of alumni Chapter China.
The seminar mainly focuses on water problem, water management strategy, water technology, and water related projects. Three brilliant presentations were given by prof. Huub Rijnaarts (Director of ETE WUR), prof. Yan Denghua (deputy director of IWHR), and prof. Ma Lin (researcher of institute of genetics and developmental biology, CAS) respectively. mrs. Anne te Velde, the Counsellor for infrastructure and environment of Dutch embassy in China and her husband, mr. Henk Vermeulen also attended the event. In the end of the event, dr. Xiaoyong Zhang, manager of China account WUR, shared the plans about celebrating activities next year for the 100 anniversary of Wageningen university & Research. All participants were very enthusiastic about the academic knowledge sharing and reunion with the schoolmates, many of them spent the whole afternoon together even after the end of the official program.
They look forward very much to the series of alumni activities in 2018, for the 100 years’ anniversary.

At 10.00 am Han Beizhong, representative of the WUR Chapter China opened the gathering. Moderator was Yan Jie. After the introduction of IWHR, prof. Huub Rijnaarts (WUR), prof. Ma Lin (alumnus) and an IWHR expert, gave academic lectures. The 100th anniversary of Wageningen University & Research in 2018 also came up for discussion. Of course there was be plenty of opportunities for networking and strengthen contacts. Afterwards the participants were invited to join the lunch.
