The bioeconomy is expected to contribute to sustainable development and in particular in rural areas. The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of income distribution and related social issues. The recent "Black Lives Matter" is seen as one of the examples illustrating the direct and indirect costs of biases in income distributions that are a result of racial discrimination. These biases are reinforced by the COVID-19 pandemic as this in particular hits less better-off households. There is general agreement that until a vaccine has not been developed a sustainable economic recovery will be difficult to achieve.

In this webinar leading international experts from policy and science will discuss the importance of the bioeconomy for economic recovery under COVID-19 while at the same time promoting equal access and participation. Speakers in particular will address important factors contributing to recovery and equality. They will discuss what is needed at scientific and policy level including recent developments in the EU and internationally.
