Agent-Based models for finding answers together; Downstream and Upstream Farmers for the Environment or Economy
The water quality of a river is strongly related to the agricultural practices in that catchment. Vice versa, the water quality could influence farmer decisions on agricultural practices. These decisions are mediated by many more factors, including economics, individual characteristics of the farmer and social dynamics in the farmer community.
A simple agent-based model will be presented that explores patterns in water quality and agricultural practices under different social dynamics. How do these patterns differ if farmers make individual or collective decisions? If they can get frustrated and adapt their strategy or urge others to do so?

Wolves in Wageningen: fairy-tale or reality?
The wolf: a dangerous myth or a symbol of freedom? People are rapidly choosing sides, now the wolf is reappearing in the Netherlands. This sparks a lively debate on where the wolf will settle and which preventive measures are to be taken. Will the wolf settle near Wageningen?
With our agent-based model, we aim to address these questions by modelling wolf settlement in the north-east of the Netherlands, showing how an agent-based model can be a tool in wolf management in the Netherlands.
