Energiebronnen voor jonge kalveren
Samenvatting (Engelstalig)
In my PhD research, I explored the feeding strategies for young dairy calves and their effects on growth and health. Traditionally, milk or milk replacer intake has been restricted to promote digestive system development and early weaning. However, recent research has shown that providing more milk improves calf growth and long-term productivity. I investigated the role of different nutrients, particularly protein, fat, and lactose, in milk replacers for calves under 21 days old. I also studied the impact of increasing fat intake during early weaning and the effects of fat inclusion in solid feeds during and after weaning. The thesis also discussed the energy provision during different stages of calf development, emphasizing the importance of body fat for calf health and growth. In summary, my research provides valuable insights into the role of nutrients in calf feeding, promoting better growth and health in young calves.
