Oleosomes from hemp seeds: Extraction and use as encapsulants for oral and transdermal applications
Samenvatting (Engelstalig)
Oleosomes are natural oil droplets abundant in oil seeds. These oleosomes can potentially be used as delivery agents for lipophilic functional ingredients. However, the available methods to encapsulate these lipophilic functional ingredients are limited, and the key factors affecting their encapsulation and release behavior are still not fully understood. Therefore, this thesis develops mild and scalable methods for extracting oleosomes, develops strategies to encapsulate lipophilic components efficiently, and investigates the delivery characteristics for digestion and transdermal applications. This then added a mechanistic understanding of the role of the membrane properties of the oleosomes in the release dynamics in both in vitro digestion and skin permeation assay.
