Do you already have a good command of English but would like to improve your academic speaking skills? Would you like to practise your pronunciation to become more fluent in English? Are you looking to learn more about presenting your academic paper, debating and having discussions, learning and using vocabulary effectively, and other academic speaking skills? Then Academic Speaking Skills is the course for you!
Academic Speaking Skills is for anyone who speaks English at least a C1-level and wishes to further improve their English-speaking skills.
Academic Speaking Skills: C1-C2 (CEFR)
Each session time is spent on practising one specific pronunciation sound group (th, u, v-f, z-s, -d). The rest of the session focuses on one of the other content areas of the course:
- Presentation skills
- Improving your fluency (social language use)
- Effectively retaining vocabulary and learning techniques
- Developing an argument and the use of persuasive language
- Debating/presenting/defending an argument
- Discussing current affairs
- The importance of vocabulary and tone
- Linguistic and cultural difference
- Idioms and expressions
The course meets once a week for 13 weeks. Each class is 1 hour and 45 minutes. You should expect to spend 1 to 2 hours on homework each week.

Prior to registration: placement test
New course participants are obliged to take the free Oxford Online Placement Test (OOPT) to ensure that they are placed in the right course. Academic Speaking Skills requires an OOPT score of at least 80.
