Food scanner

As a consumer it is difficult to check the origin, shelf life or content of your food. Wageningen University & Research researchers are developing ways to link measurement data from a mini scanner to scientific knowledge about products. An app on the smartphone will then give you the desired information.

This would make it possible to check, for instance, whether saffron powder only consists of saffron, whether ‘fresh’ meat has been defrosted at an earlier stage or how much protein it contains. This increases transparency and gives consumers more control over their nutrition. Yet another way Wageningen UR is working on the quality of life.
