'Inclusion' has become almost universally embraced in debates about innovation and global development. Scientists need to listen to stakeholders and include them in the design of interventions and inclusions. However, it often remains unclear who should be included in an innovation processes.
Your thesis will look at tensions between the interests of local communities, national discourses, and global debates. One potential case study is located in Brazilian state of Bahia in which the local advocacy for a nature reservation creates tensions with national emphasis on economic development, and interacts with global concerns about climate change. This case study requires fluency in Portuguese. The master topic could also be developed in the context of a different case study.
