In 2010 we started measuring forest plots with Terrestrial Laser Scanning. One of the first areas we went to is the Loobos study site, where –next to many other measurements- monthly measurements of the tree diameter (DBH) are done. Although the forest was in a mature state already during the first series of measurements, we expect that the diameter increased over the last 7 years.
The question is if we can accurately determine the tree growth over this time period, and whether the increase in diameter is consistent for the whole stem. Therefore, we plan to measure the same plots and find out if TLS can be used to accurately determine the increase in stem diameter for this forest site.
- Can the increase in DBH be accurately measured with TLS?
- Is the increase in diameter consistent for the whole stem?
