For the last three year a citizens science project in the Netherlands collects Mosquito data. This project is a multipurpose one because the research team likes to expand their formal fieldwork by this way of data acquisition to get a better insight in the spatial distribution of Mosquito species in time and place and to discover invasive species like the Tiger mosquito.
However there are many concerns about the quality of the gathered data, especially the spatial and temporal distribution. Does this data tell us something about mosquitoes or something about citizens? That’s the question.
For that reason the objective of the thesis will focus on the Quality assessment of Citizens Science generated mosquito data.
Data: citizens science mosquito data of NL 2019-2020
The thesis will be supervised by the Laboratory of Geo-information Science and Remote Sensing and Entomology, and will support a current PhD study.
