NIOO has the ambition to treat its wastewater in a sustainable manner. Rainwater, washing wastewater and toilet wastewater are separated at the source here. A fermenter converts the organic matter in toilet wastewater into biogas, after which microalgae will retain the valuable minerals such as phosphorus, nitrogen and potassium and close the nutrient cycle. After treatment, the remaining stream will flow back into the pond in front of the NIOO building. You can subscribe for an instructive visit now!
