Researchers from the Universities of Wageningen, Kiel and Ghent showed that the frequently used lab line Bristol N2 of nematode C. elegans is a genetic outlier. Wild populations of this worm on the other hand provide a treasure trove of genotype-phenotype relations that will greatly enhance future research in this model organism.
