Quantification of soil insects in reduced soil cultivation

We are looking for a student who will study the effects of reduced soil tillage on soil insects.

In this project the student will study the effects of non-inversion tillage on soil bound insects such as ground beetles and spiders. In a long term field trial (BASIS, started since 2009) ploughing is compared with non-inversion tillage and reduced tillage, in both a conventional and an organic farming context. The plough/no plough treatments are executed in a system of Controlled Traffic lanes. After almost ten years we want to quantify the effects of reduced tillage on soil biodiversity and to be specific: on ground beetles. The activities of the student depend on interest, background and time of the year.
