Research Assistant KIT Gender

The Royal Tropical Institute (KIT) is conducting a gender synthesis of the Canadian International Food Security Research Fund (CIFSRF) on behalf of the International Development Research Centre (IDRC). CIFSRF aims to support innovation for more efficient and sustainable agricultural production to enhance food security, incomes, and nutrition that benefit small-scale farmers. KIT Gender is looking for an intern Research Assistant to support the undertaking of the assignment.

The two main deliverables of KIT’s assignment are:

  1. A policy brief on perspectives and lessons on integrating gender efficiently and effectively in research and development programs;
  2. A draft scientific and analytical paper focused on different strategies for integrating gender and their outcomes using the CIFRSF projects as case examples;

Tasks and responsibilities

Overall: responsible for supporting the logistics and research processes of the project working closely with and under the supervision of KIT project team members.

Specific tasks

  • Undertake literature search, review and analysis
  • Develop data collection tools
  • Code interview and project data and documentation
  • Develop "case study" comparators
  • Project and other data mapping
  • Design and implement survey and undertake initial analysis
  • Provide data management support
  • Contribute to the development of key lessons learnt and drafting of reports and paper
  • Provide logistical support to project implementation and administration (as needed)

Profile

  • Current student (Master) in gender and development / social sciences preferably related to agricultural research
  • Familiarity with international development (particularly agriculture and food security and nutrition), gender analysis, gender and technology development and gender transformative approaches
  • Experience with conducting literature reviews, synthesizing information and communicating findings
  • Experience with NVIVO or other specialized qualitative software is an asset
  • Good communication and inter-personal skill
  • Ability to work in Amsterdam

  • Remuneration: Internship, EUR540/month
