The Evolving Digital User Experience (UX) during the Covid19 Pandemic

The work environment has changed for many people during 2020. Working from home is both expected and has become the norm. Companies have been required to adapt to significant digital hurdles and diverse working habits. Yet, there have also been opportunities for the design of new UX-driven digital products to produce bespoke work-from-home technologies (e.g. virtual conferencing tools/education platforms). This project involves an investigation into:
1) how the digital user experience has changed during the Covid19 pandemic. 2) what quantitative measures can be used to model/assess the change in work habits. Social media (Twitter) data will be used for the quantitative investigation.

UX is often defined as the ‘sweet spot’ where user needs and business needs overlap. In other words, it is the creation and synchronization of the elements that affect user’s experience with a company, with the intent of influencing their perceptions and behaviour. When creating a digital product, a UX designer follows a user-centred design process (UX lifecycle). The biggest challenge when designing UX is blending digital models to create a responsive and intuitive experience. However, this raises many questions in the current working climate, for example:

  1. How has the user experience changed?
  2. What digital tools are people using and how do they interact with their work involvement?
  3. Can the evolution of the technology change be modelled/mapped?


Objectives

  1. Investigate/model current UX-drive work-from-home tools/platforms
  2. Construct dataset from Twitter using Python/R (e.g. twitteR/rtweet libraries) (support with the coding can be provided by the supervisor)
  3. Investigate using quantitative measures (e.g. multiple linear regression) factors that influence user opinion of UX in Covid19
