Besides sugar for food and pulp for animal feed, the sugarbeet has much more potential. Wageningen UR researchers are working with the sugar industry to use everything in sugarbeet. For example, the pulp contains valuable raw materials that can be used in detergents and cement to replace substances from fossil oil.
Moreover, a special sugar from the pulp has been shown to be a suitable raw material for plastic bottles. Everything that still remains can be used to make biogas. By utilising everything in the sugarbeet, Wageningen UR is working to improve the quality of life.
