The Winterlight Greenhouse is a new greenhouse concept which gains 10% more light in winter and is currently under construction at Wageningen UR Greenhouse Horticulture in Bleiswijk. The Winterlight Greenhouse has a new type of screen system: Ludvig Svensson high transmittance screen and specially developed diffusing glass. Together with optimization of the construction, more than 10% light gain will be achieved. The coming period different surveys and crop trials will start in the greenhouse. Coming winter the greenhouse concept is tested with a new cultivation method for a cucumber crop, focusing specially on the winter period.
Innovative design of the Winterlight Greenhouse
The greenhouse structure of the Winterlight Greenhouse is provided with a new extra white powder coating having an increased degree of reflection of 90%. In the roof SmartGlass is used, a new type of diffuse glass with increased panel size of 300 x 167 cm. Even if the glass is wet or condensed, the light transmittance does not decrease. The integrated Iso ++ screen system is installed in a W-shape for optimal light transmission in winter as long as the screens are closed. In addition, it is provided with a novel highly transparent screen cloth of Ludvig Svensson with an even better light transmittance. The Winterlight Greenhouse is equipped with an 'Air in Control' climate system to maximize the benefits of the Next Generation Cultivation.
