Agreement with Springer on Open Access

January 5, 2015

We are happy to inform you that the Dutch universities and the publisher Springer have reached an agreement for 2015 and 2016 on Open Access publishing for corresponding authors in 2015 and 2016.

Under the agreement, all articles published by corresponding authors affiliated with a Dutch VSNU or NFU member institution will be published in Open Access free of charge for the author. The agreement covers around 1500 journals within the Springer OpenChoice program. Journals from Learned Societies, and journals in BiomedCentral and SpringerOpen are not covered by this agreement. The agreement applies to all articles accepted in the eligible journals as of 1 January 2015.

Eligibility to publish your article as open access under this agreement will be verified during the production process by both your affiliated institution and Springer. The verification will not cost you extra work and will not delay the publication process.

All article types and journals covered by the VSNU-Springer agreement are specified here.

For questions on participating institutions or the verification process please go to or contact your university library for more information.
