Following an invited lecture by Wouter Hendriks at the VIV Asia held in Bangkok, both he and Thomas Schonewille visited various strategic partners of CAN in Thailand. During this 10 day visit in April 2014, constructive meetings were held with official representatives from Kasetsart University (Assoc. Prof. Dr. T. Rukkwamsuk, former vice president), Rajamangala University of Technology Isan (Assist. Prof. Dr. C. Yuangklang, vice president) and Khon Kaen University (Assoc. Prof. Dr. A. Suneerat, dean) with the aim to intensify the collaboration between the Thai partners and CAN.

The specific activities of cooperation include visiting professorships, student exchange, selection of research topics and exploring possibilities for funding. As a direct result of the visit, one PhD student from Khon Kaen will visit Wageningen University for extensive laboratory training and a student from Utrecht University will conduct her MSc at Khon Kaen University. Specific agreements were made at Rajamangala University of Technology Isan (RMUTI) regarding the education of staff and students of this university in the writing of scientific papers. Currently new experimental facilities are under construction at RMUTI, thereby, offering excellent possibilities to intensify collaborative research activities between RMUTI and CAN through joint PhD programs and staff appointments.
