Congresses are the perfect platform to test new ideas or to bring together interested parties for new research ideas. Thus, congress proceedings need to be available quickly and to a broad audience. Open Access and online publication of congress proceedings offer these tremendous advantages so that many fellow researchers – even in developing countries – have fast and easy access to research ideas and results.

To encourage open exchange, the organisation Agro Environ 2012 has published its congress proceedings in an Open Access publication system that the Wageningen UR Library manages. This publication system Open Journal Systems contains a special congress section. The congress proceedings of Agro Envrion 2012 includes all abstracts, keynote texts, presentations, short reviewed papers, and posters of the congress.

Wageningen UR Library offers support in creating the publication system’s user interface and site structure and uploading congress proceedings. The congress proceedings are accessible for a minimum of 5 years after the congress and are indexed so that they can be easily found with search engines.

The publication system is not only available for congress proceedings but also for online journals.
