Last week, Dutch ambassador Gerben de Jong and consortium team leader Jaap de Heer signed the contract for the formulation of the Bangladesh Delta Plan 2100. A consortium of Dutch and Bangladeshi organisations, led by the Dutch consultancy firm Twynstra Gudde, will be formulating new delta plan for Bangladesh in the upcoming years. Wageningen UR is part of this consortium.
Collaboration in the areas of delta management and delta technology
The Netherlands and Bangladesh have got a lot in common: both countries are experiencing a large growth in population, both are located in a river delta and they are also both very susceptible to the effects of sea level rise. The two countries have been sharing water management knowledge for the past forty years. The plan will be the start of a long-term collaboration in the areas of delta management and delta technology. Wageningen UR will be contributing knowledge in the areas of land use and climate adaptation.
Long-term strategic plan for the Bangladesh delta
The consortium will now start writing a long-term strategic plan for the entire delta. The results of the first explorations will be finalized in June this year.
