Predatory mites of the family Phytoseiidae are very important for biological control of thrips, whiteflies and spider mites in greenhouse crops.
Nowadays, there are 9 species of generalist predatory mites commercially available. The purpose of this study was to collect data both from literature and additional laboratory trials about effects of crop, climate and light on biological control by predatory mites. This will hopefully help to give sound advice about the use of predatory mites in greenhouse crops. We found clear differences in performance at lower humidity and temperature levels, suitability for crops and efficacy in pest control.
