IS-MPMI Congress Travel Award for Jaap Jan Willig
Jaap Jan has been selected as a recipient of a travel award to attend the XVIII IS-MPMI International Congress in Glasgow, Scotland. This biennial Congress on Molecular Plant-Microbe Interactions will be held from 14 - 18 July 2019. This is the most important congress in the field of molecular plant-pathogen interactions.
The travel fellowship awardees will also participate in a workshop on the first day of the meeting focusing on public communication and outreach. Developing public outreach skills will help to communicate your work to a broader audience, which should positively impact public understanding of MPMI research. In addition, the ability to summarize your research in a brief and clear manner will help to communicate better with other scientists.
At the workshop there will be a chance to work in small groups to develop a two minute “elevator talk” describing your research in a manner that will be understandable to an educated non-scientist. Each of these small groups will interact with an established IS-MPMI member who is experienced with science communication and who can aid in developing your talks. This information will be used to develop your talks and make a video recording, that will be published on the Interactions website or an IS-MPMI YouTube channel.
