The revised database can be queried with a digital search interface using Google map technology (Browse by Google map). A pop up menu showing links related to soil science has been added to the site.
From its establishment in 1966, ISRIC - World Soil Information has built up a collection of over 20 000 articles, reports, books, maps, pictures, digital databases and other items in the field of soil science, land management, physical geography and related subjects. Among these 20 000 publications are at the moment 112 full text reports and 3647 digital maps. The collection is housed at Duivendaal 9, 6701 AR Wageningen, The Netherlands and is publicly accessible. A selection of ISRIC’s text books has been transferred to Wageningen UR Library, which offers a document delivery service.
The ISRIC - World Soil Information Database is searchable by name of author, title words, keywords, country code, google map, or coordinates. The advanced search option offers the possibility to refine a search by ‘Year of publication‘, ‘full text reports only’, ‘digital maps only’, ‘books’, ‘journal’ or ‘maps’. For a demonstration of the zoomable digital maps try: Country code: ‘Algeria’ and ‘digital maps only’.
Where applicable, full text reports in PDF format have been linked to the associated scanned maps (try, for example, an advanced search with ‘Caswell’ as author).
In addition to the information made available by the ISRIC World Soil Database on the Internet is a wealth of information available too. An overview of relevant journals, newsletter, books, national unions, emaps and databases related to soil science is presented.
