Joost started his scientific career in 2002 at the Animal Nutrition Group. After defending his PhD thesis on nutrient synchronization in veal calves, he was awarded a prestigious VENI grant from STW (the Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research), co-funded by the Product Board Animal Feed.
In this project, Joost worked on the regulation of glucose metabolism, and its interaction with the metabolism of the end products of fermentation in veal calves. Apart from his research on veal calves, Joost participated in many other research projects conducted at the Animal Nutrition Group, with particular emphasis on projects related to metabolism and the use of stable isotope methodology in research. At May 1st, Joost will have successfully completed this VENI project and will continue his career as Senior Researcher Protein & Energy Metabolism at FrieslandCampina in Wageningen. We thank him for his enormous contribution to science and atmosphere at the Animal Nutrition Group and wish him the best of luck at FrieslandCampina.
