Library with Wageningen UR partners into Europe

For a while now, the Library has been working with different Wageningen UR units, such as Applied Plant Research (PPO), Alterra and RIKILT, doing literature research for different European research programmes.

The collaboration consists of submitting project proposals and carrying out the project once the project has been awarded funding. The Library uses its expertise to structurally search the available bibliographic databases and to define extensive search strategies within these databases. With the Library’s contribution, Wageningen UR partners are assured that the collected information optimally and qualitatively meets the question of the European client.

A good example of this successful collaboration is the partnership between the Library and PPO Flower bulbs, Trees & Fruit in three tenders for the EFSA, the European Food Safety Authority. For these tenders, an extensive literature search was done on the cultivation, reproduction and crop protection methods of 20 vegetable and ornamental plants in 30 European countries with the aim of mapping the risks of spreading disease and plagues. The Library delivered relevant literature on the topic after which PPO crop specialists evaluated the literature's content. The same project for EFSA is now being carried out for fruit crops. The EFSA has recently selected PPO and the Library for a four-year framework agreement that lists them as the preferred supplier for future research projects.
