We would like to introduce our new PhD student Tanik Joshipura who started working with us on February 1:

Tanik grew up in Tanzania, and did his bachelors in the United States in Economics, before finishing his MSc at the Tilburg University. He is passionate about development in sub-Saharan Africa and has worked on the field in the non profit sector for 2.5 years in East Africa.

He is currently pursuing an Economic History PhD project at the Rural and Environmental History group, where he hopes to understand the history of African economic development, and why sub-Saharan Africa has moved from being a net exporter, to a net importer of food over the last century.

Tanik will be supervised by Ewout Frankema, Pim de Zwart and Michiel de Haas
