Wageningen University & Research and Agreenium join their forces in a Summer School ‘agroecology and animal production.’ Both institutes are leading in Europe on research and (post) academic education in agriculture. Agroecology is receiving increasing attention as a sustainable solution for future agriculture. Livestock is a key component in agroecological systems, however, growing concerns rise concerning social and environmental consequences. The aim of the Summer School is to provide recent insights on the role of livestock in agroecology from a broad perspective, and within a European context.

Joint Partnership

Agreenium, (l’ institute agronomique, vetereniaire & forester de France), is a research and higher education institute in agribiosciences.  Developing strategic and operational partnerships in France and internationally, to boost the effectiveness of the research-training-innovation-development system is one of their key targets, besides research and education. Both Agreenium and Wageningen University & research are top 3 institutes in the field of agroecology (in Europe).

Theoretical framework,
how to realise transition, assessment and anticipate on future developments

The 4-day summer school focuses on multiple topics. First it starts with the theoretical framework for agroecological farmnigs systems, as understanding the fundamental principles  of agroecology and their application to livestock systems is key. Being able to examine the changes needed for sustainable livestock production and gain overview of the diversity of levers and practices that can be implemented is the next topic.  How to realise transition, mobilize appropriate assessment methods and implement innovations are further steps in gaining understanding, being able to apply and anticipate on future developments in agroecology, animal production related.

Professionals and PhD are invited

The Summer School Agroecology and animal production is especially designed for PhD students in the field of agriculture, and professionals in agriculture and the feed and food industry. After completion of the Summer Course, participants gained in-depth understanding of the holistic and interdisciplinary agroecological approach in relation to livestock systems. Furthermore, they are able to add new knowledge to your field of expertise and to anticipate on future developments in agroecology.
