Orion almost ready for the centenary of WUR

As of yesterday, the Orion building is being adorned with an enormous logo of 100 years WUR. Suspended from a window-washing cage, workers apply the sticker as the opening of the centenary of WUR on 8 March is getting close.

Graphic designer Remy de Geer designed the logo based on the three WUR knowledge domains: food and food production; living environment; and health, lifestyle and livelihood. 'I depicted these domains as four intersecting icons,' explains De Geer. The changing shape of the logo symbolises the continuous development of research and education at WUR. In printed form, this dynamic will be reflected in four separate icons used interchangeably in our communications.

De Geer designed the icons to be interpreted in different ways. 'Each association can be traced back to education and research at WUR,' he says. 'Take the circle logo, for example. Some people see a fingerprint, others see the growth rings of a tree.'

The logo sticker could not be applied last week due to the cold. Once the workers are finished on Wednesday, it will be obvious to everyone on campus that the centenary celebrations are upon us.
