Publication: Genetic background modifies phenotypic and transcriptional responses in a C. elegans model of α-synuclein toxicity

This paper shows how the genetic background
conditions transgene effect(s), and specifically illustrates
how the consequences of ectopic overexpression
of α-synuclein depends on genetic background.

We have introgressed a transgene that results in the expression of α-synuclein in the body wall and vulval muscles into different genetic backgrounds of C. elegans. Analysis of these newly created α-synuclein ILs indicates that genetic background effects both the response of the animals to α-synuclein expression at the level of gene expression and in terms of the phenotypic consequences.
