Research innovation theme 2: Marine Governance
Oceans and seas hold a rich treasure of natural resources and provide space for a variety of maritime and coastal activities, such as fishing, aquaculture, oil and gas production, offshore wind energy, shipping, and tourism. Environmental pollution, spatial conflicts and a loss of biodiversity are the shadow side of economic developments at sea. Challenges for marine governance research at the Environmental Policy Group are to understand the dynamics of governance at sea and to develop governance arrangements which contribute to a sustainable and equitable future for the largest commons in the world.
